The summer before seventh grade I read A Wrinkle in Time, and Flowers in the Attic. I learned that 1) paranormal stories are my absolute favorite and 2) sex can only improve any story.*
Adulthood found me delivering babies in Samoa and trudging through Northeastern winters with my nursing bag. Plus reading, reading and reading. I wrote six novels before publication. The Alaskan wilderness is full of romance, beauty and power. Add in some werebears, vampires and witches for a sexy, fast paced Happily Ever After read. The Icy Cap Den was created from my fascination with Barrow, Alaska on the Arctic Sea.
My writing process includes lots of procrastination, fretting and more reading until I start writing detailed outlines on yellow legal pads with a blue pen. All that gets tossed out when my fingers hit the keyboard and the story unfolds before me. This is not a writing process I recommend but it is what works for me. Like most authors, I escape to my imagination probably more than I should. Things that get me out of the house include Indian food and live theater. I live in Seattle with my great husband, two pretty great sons and three fantastic dogs.
*An unsupervised reading list is the best gift a child can receive.
